Ok, I am feeling like a little rant today....

I support and applaud all of those that want to go into business for themselves. If someone wants to start offering spray tans GREAT!!!
The problem is that spray tanning is still "new" to many people especially here in Alabama. A totally new experience. When this new experience isn't good they are less likely to try it again.

Back to my point of starting a spray tan business... GET TRAINING!!!!!!! Please don't just buy some equipment, watch a video, and go out and start doing spray tans. Although it looks easy and there are sites designed to make money out of you starting up spray tanning by telling you how easy and fast it is, there is an art to it and technique involved that an experienced spray tanner (whom themselves have been trained and exposed to various situations) can help you to develop. You also need to understand different solutions and what is in those solutions to find the ones that you work best with and give your customers the results they desire.

Training is an investment in your business and yourself. Just like the investment you make to buy your equipment and supplies training is necessary. Your training gives you an edge, a confidence, and if you are good you WILL get returned business, referrels, and more. Thus a return on your investment and your business will grow.

If you decide against this essential part of starting your spray tan business, than you could be left spinning your wheels in the dirt when you don't get returned business and the word of mouth gets out that people should avoid your services due to bad experiences. Think about it, if you have a bad experience with someone your twice as likely to tell someone else about it just like your future customers will be. Don't set yourself back, set yourself apart. You will be out of business before you are even in it.... You also give other spray tanners that are really good a bad name and loose business for them because your customer had their 1st spray tan and it was a bad experience and they decided to never ever try it again. I ask "Why waste your time and money to start an unsuccessful business?"

For all of those who have had bad spray tans and said to yourself "Never again" - please don't think that everyone is the same. Just like hairdressers there are those that are fantastic and those that aren't so good. Seek out the fantastic ones and stay with them.
If you wonder how to find the good ones, its just like any other service... Ask around, do some research, check someone's credibility, check customer feedback if available, and don't just shop on price alone....

Rick and Bubba Show!

Last weekend was can I say a bit overwhelming and wonderful at the same time.

Let me tell you a bit about how this all got started. I happened to be listening to the Rick and Bubba show on Wednesday morning (July 7) while in the drive through getting a coffee at McD's. They had Dr. Maureen Muecke on and happened to bring up the NGA Alabama Open Body Building and Figure Competition. They also brought up that Greg might be doing a mock "pose off" at the show.

Now I am never ever one to call in radio shows, I just don't ever think about it and I hate to sit on hold or get busy signals and keep calling. But giving the subject matter I couldn't resist, I found the number and called. I couldn't believe it when someone picked up on the 1st ring it was LeESPN. I said "Hey I am the spray tan tech on-site for the NGA and would love to give Greg a spray tan for the competition." She said "hold-on" and next thing I know I am on-air talking about this with Rick Burgess. AAAAAHHHH!

Ok so I was told to be at the show on Friday morning ready to go....

I was so excited to be invited to the Rick and Bubba show on Friday July 9th to give the "Real" Greg Burgess a spray tan. I should point out that I was really nervous and I said a quick prayer that I wouldn't sound like a complete idiot and I wouldn't say "um" a hundred times.

I really wasn't even sure when I woke up (at 4 am btw) if anything was going to happen when I got there. I had this fear that even though they had told me to show up that when I got there it would be a no go. I am pulling into the parking deck at the studio when Eddie Van Adler the intern calls me to say and I quote "It's on like Donkey Kong." Now I am even more excited, I mean this is the Rick and Bubba show that is syndicated all over the country plus XM radio and much more and they are about to talk about me giving a spray tan!!!



We get set-up right outside the huge studio window looking right in on Rick and Bubba and team. I could tell right away this was gonna be good stuff for them to talk about - how can you not talk about half naked people getting spray tanned right in front of you?

The night before the show I called a friend of mine Eddy Stuart from Iron Works Fitness (the gym I go to) that I knew was going to be in the competition on Saturday and asked him if he would meet me at the Rick and Bubba studios to get his Competition Level Spray Tan live on air. I can't believe he said yes but he did and he did show up. I have to give him big props for this because not many men have the guts to strip down to little or nothing and get a spray tan while Rick and Bubba watch. Your just asking for it. He was an awesome sport!



I told Speedy that I would do Eddy's tan first because it is such a dark color and such a drastic transformation that I knew Rick and Bubba would just go crazy over it for the radio audience especially since Greg was going to get a tan too. It worked, I got Eddy to his super dark best, he really did look like he was dipped in chocolate, (actually he perfectly matched the bronze trophy he won the next night, way to go!).

Then it was Greg's turn, I didn't give him a competition tan but gave him a nice "Sunkissed" tan, a tan he could walk around and be comfortable in but look really good doing it. He was so nice and although I know he got ragged about it he was a good sport and I think he actually liked it. Tans just have a good affect on people, you can't help but like it.



After I was done we all went inside the studio and Eddy and Greg did a mock "pose-off." As you can see from the photos it was good stuff!

I was then invited to come sit at the mic and talk about spray tanning a little which was awesome. Luckily my little prayer worked because everyone that knows me said I sounded good and professional and not nervous at all, Thank you Lord!

So what a morning - an experience I couldn't have bought but was one in a lifetime and I will remember forever. I can't thank the staff of Rick and Bubba enough for their hospitality and well the publicity that was provided from our 45 minute stay. My website had never seen that many hits ever.

The Big Bonus my husband (whom some of you know) has had a tough year with his health and he is a big fan of the show. He got to go to this experience with me and that means even more to me that he was there. I love you Adam Stritikus - thank you for being such a supportive wonderful husband even if you wife paints half naked men. :)

As the weather is getting warmer and warmer, the flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping and low and behold its time for shorts and sundresses again. Now you may have tried to convince yourself with the whole "Twilight" phenomena that pale is the "in" look (and I am not knocking it - I love Twilight too). Let me tell ya ladies now - unless you are pulling off an entire "Goth" look like Abbey in NCIS - you are not rocking hot with pale white legs. I am not by any means saying that you need to darken to the point your skin is indistinguishable from your grandfathers old leather recliner but you will beneift from a nice hint of color that says "Hey look at my fantastic legs!" With a nice spray tan you can do just that and not risk any of the damage or the possible burning from traditional tanning methods. Plus you won't show any evidence (i.e. orange hands and black ankles) associated with using sunless tanning creams. Think about this - how much you spend on your hair, your nails and toenails to look good in those great new sandals, and your new bathing suite that has to be absolutely right on the beach or beside the pool.
