Rick and Bubba Show!

Last weekend was can I say a bit overwhelming and wonderful at the same time.

Let me tell you a bit about how this all got started. I happened to be listening to the Rick and Bubba show on Wednesday morning (July 7) while in the drive through getting a coffee at McD's. They had Dr. Maureen Muecke on and happened to bring up the NGA Alabama Open Body Building and Figure Competition. They also brought up that Greg might be doing a mock "pose off" at the show.

Now I am never ever one to call in radio shows, I just don't ever think about it and I hate to sit on hold or get busy signals and keep calling. But giving the subject matter I couldn't resist, I found the number and called. I couldn't believe it when someone picked up on the 1st ring it was LeESPN. I said "Hey I am the spray tan tech on-site for the NGA and would love to give Greg a spray tan for the competition." She said "hold-on" and next thing I know I am on-air talking about this with Rick Burgess. AAAAAHHHH!

Ok so I was told to be at the show on Friday morning ready to go....

I was so excited to be invited to the Rick and Bubba show on Friday July 9th to give the "Real" Greg Burgess a spray tan. I should point out that I was really nervous and I said a quick prayer that I wouldn't sound like a complete idiot and I wouldn't say "um" a hundred times.

I really wasn't even sure when I woke up (at 4 am btw) if anything was going to happen when I got there. I had this fear that even though they had told me to show up that when I got there it would be a no go. I am pulling into the parking deck at the studio when Eddie Van Adler the intern calls me to say and I quote "It's on like Donkey Kong." Now I am even more excited, I mean this is the Rick and Bubba show that is syndicated all over the country plus XM radio and much more and they are about to talk about me giving a spray tan!!!



We get set-up right outside the huge studio window looking right in on Rick and Bubba and team. I could tell right away this was gonna be good stuff for them to talk about - how can you not talk about half naked people getting spray tanned right in front of you?

The night before the show I called a friend of mine Eddy Stuart from Iron Works Fitness (the gym I go to) that I knew was going to be in the competition on Saturday and asked him if he would meet me at the Rick and Bubba studios to get his Competition Level Spray Tan live on air. I can't believe he said yes but he did and he did show up. I have to give him big props for this because not many men have the guts to strip down to little or nothing and get a spray tan while Rick and Bubba watch. Your just asking for it. He was an awesome sport!



I told Speedy that I would do Eddy's tan first because it is such a dark color and such a drastic transformation that I knew Rick and Bubba would just go crazy over it for the radio audience especially since Greg was going to get a tan too. It worked, I got Eddy to his super dark best, he really did look like he was dipped in chocolate, (actually he perfectly matched the bronze trophy he won the next night, way to go!).

Then it was Greg's turn, I didn't give him a competition tan but gave him a nice "Sunkissed" tan, a tan he could walk around and be comfortable in but look really good doing it. He was so nice and although I know he got ragged about it he was a good sport and I think he actually liked it. Tans just have a good affect on people, you can't help but like it.



After I was done we all went inside the studio and Eddy and Greg did a mock "pose-off." As you can see from the photos it was good stuff!

I was then invited to come sit at the mic and talk about spray tanning a little which was awesome. Luckily my little prayer worked because everyone that knows me said I sounded good and professional and not nervous at all, Thank you Lord!

So what a morning - an experience I couldn't have bought but was one in a lifetime and I will remember forever. I can't thank the staff of Rick and Bubba enough for their hospitality and well the publicity that was provided from our 45 minute stay. My website had never seen that many hits ever.

The Big Bonus my husband (whom some of you know) has had a tough year with his health and he is a big fan of the show. He got to go to this experience with me and that means even more to me that he was there. I love you Adam Stritikus - thank you for being such a supportive wonderful husband even if you wife paints half naked men. :)

What I have learned....

There is a big difference in picking up a HVLP gun and spraying someone with tanning solution and knowing how to make that tanning solution perform and look fantastic.

Anyone can pick up a gun and spray you but do you know if they have the little techniques that are going to give you the most for your money?

When I started this business I spent months researching, trying equipments, solutions, and practicing techniques before even taking my first paying client. I also invested time and money to train with people that have been in this industry for years and have tanned some of the best bodies around the country.

Because I believe so greatly in sunless tanning to give the bronze look but save the skin I wanted to make sure I gave this industry a good name by being nothing less than excellent for my clients.

If you have received an Airbrush Tan before or tanned in an automatic booth and you were not greatly impressed with the results, don't give up on it just yet. Try me and see the difference.

Automatic Spray Tanning Booths Vs. Professional Airbrush Spray Tan

I have spoken to people that have said, "Well I tried one of those automatic spray tan booths and it didn't turn out like expected." Professional airbrush tanning is NOTHING like the automatic spray tan booths. Think about it, your inside a booth that is set to send out sprays every few seconds hopefully hitting you in the right places, while a spray tech is going to airbrush you in all the right places to ensure an even coverage. You won't have to stand there trying in 3 seconds to remember which way to pose or turn because your tech will take care of this. Your tan can be totally customize to enhance your body type and your "good parts" and help diminish the look of cellulite, wrinkles, veins, and other blemishes.
So you have to decide, play russian roulette with the automatic spray booth or be guaranteed the results you desire. I know what I would choose.

The 1st of Many

I am starting this blog about different aspects of sunless tanning and hopefully make more people in Birmingham and surrounding areas more aware of our companies services. Sunkissed Mobile Spray Tanning's goal is to help people achieve a very natural glow and avoid long term damage that traditional tanning can potentially cause.

Airbrush Tanning is the choice of the National Association of Dermatologists and also the National Skin Cancer Association. Most physicians will advocate a choice of sunless tanning versus tanning in the traditional manor.

Why did I start Airbrush Tanning?

When my husband was diagnosed with cancer our lives were changed forever. Seeing what he has had to go through to live was almost too much to handle. I had always used tanning beds but I also would usually burn. When I went to my Dermatologist and she warned me of what I was doing to my skin and the potential of getting skin cancer I knew that I would never tan the traditional way again. Don't get me wrong, I still get outside and love being in the sun and I still get a little color from this but I wear sunblock or sunscreen and I minimize my exposure to avoid burning that can cause the long term damage.

Now I am committed to only sunless tanning to achieve the same "SunKissed" look that I feel makes my skin look better and healthier. I have tried all types of lotions, spritz, bronzers, gradual tanners, mousses and more. The problem I ran into was that it took me quite a while to apply these plus a little help from my husband to get my back, and I had to be really careful or I would wind up with orange hands and black knees and elbows. Sometimes when I thought I was being really careful I would get these anyway. It is the tell tell sign that says "Hey I have a sunless tan." So I tried getting in one of those automated tanning booths. I found it a little intimidating because the tanning attendant gave me tons of instructions and positions to remember and told me I have to get it right or I might get sprayed too much in some areas. It turned out ok but still it just wasn't a relaxing fun experience. Then I discovered HVLP airbrush tanning, this is when a tanning tech (like myself now) applies the solution with an HVLP airbrush over your entire body or areas you prefer to give you the most even natural sunless tan. A tan that can fool anybody, you will have to tell them it is a sunless tan. Having a professional spray a tan on takes 5 minutes or less on average and your done. No worries about how it is going to look because with the instant color guide in the solution you see the tan immediately. It is truly in my opinion the best way to achieve a tanned natural looking glow and avoid long-term damage.
